For the unselfish and unwavering support of Humanitarian Aid; And for having demonstrated great courage and power to inspire others with Development; and for significantly alleviating human suffering and improvement of quality of life

This is part of the statement in the Plaque of Honor awarded to Ven. Wimala.

This is not the first time an award was presented to Venerable Bhante Wimala in Tacloban City in the Philippines. A few years back, the City Council of Tacloban passed a resolution recognizing his humanitarian efforts for the Yolanda disaster relief programs and gave him an award. On several other occasions he was honored and given awards by the same community.

On January 29th 2020, Dr. Edwards Chua and Dr. Lisa Chua presented the award on behalf of the community. A special honor ceremony was held at the Asian Development Foundation College in Tacloban, the Philippines.

On his arrival, he was led to the reception hall by a College marching band. The  four hour celebration included different kinds of cultural dance performances of adults and children, choir performance and singing.
