Each year, we celebrate the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha during the Vesak celebrations. This year Vesak celebrations in Nairobi, Kenya, included three special events, two in Nairobi and one in the coastal city of Mombasa.
The Vesak celebration was launched in the Sanathn Dharma temple (one of the Hindu temples) in Nairobi. Bhante Wimala, the head monk of the Nairobi Buddhist Temple led the program. The event, which included a Dhamma talk, guided meditation and a blessing ceremony, was attended by Hindu and Buddhist followers of many nationalities. We all rejoiced at the occasion of Hindus and Buddhists coming together to celebrate the life of one of the greatest sages of India, the Buddha.
