VESAK CELEBRATION:
Celebrating the Day of Enlightenment
Sunday May 26th, 2013 at the Nairobi Buddhist Temple, Loresho.
The Nairobi Buddhist Temple will be celebrating Vesak on the 26th May, to commemorate the Birth, the Enlightenment and the Passing away of the Buddha. This is undoubtedly the most sacred day for all Buddhists around the world. We have put together a nice program for the friends and students of the temple. Please join us and make this sacred day a special day for peace, self reflection and spiritual awareness.
Program
9 – 9:30 : Guided meditation on the nine virtues of the Buddha (Buddhanussathi bhavana)
9:30 – 10:00 am : Walking meditation
10:00 – 11:00 am : Instruction and guided meditation
11:30 am : Buddha Puja and lunch for monks
12: 00 pm : Lunch for visitors, Every body is welcome to have a meal with us.
2:00 – 2:30 pm : Mettha Bhavana, loving kindness meditation
3:00 – 4:00 pm : Compassion in action. Video presentation of latest humanitarian projects and discussion on compassion
4:15 pm : Afternoon tea
4:30 – 5:30 pm : Dhamma talk and discussion by Venerable Bhante Wimala
Topic: Buddha’s path to inner peace and happiness.
Buddha proclaimed “I am awake” as he experienced enlightenment. The Buddha’s teaching is known as the teaching of awakening. How can the Buddha’s teaching help us to awaken the wisdom in our hearts so that we can live happy and meaningful lives?
5:30 pm : Dedication of new Shrine
6:00 – 7:00 pm : Buddha puja and blessing ceremony.
7:30 pm : Candle lighting ceremony.
We would like to remind you to make a commitment to give yourself the gift of peace on this special day. Please come to the sacred space of our temple and have a day of peace and share peace with the world. As you enter the temple please remember to speak softly and stay calm so that you will not disturb the peace in the environment of the temple.
It is a tradition to wear white cloths on Vesak day. So we recommend you to wear white cloths when you come to the temple if possible.
