In recognition of the spiritual teachings and humanitarian projects of Bhante Wimala, the Upcountry Amarapura Supreme Monks Council of Sri Lanka recently awarded him the prestigious “Samadutha” Peace award. At a special monks council meeting, held on the 14th of March in the hill country town of Nuwara Eliya, Bhante received this award in the presence of more than 40 monks.
Bhante’s teacher, the Venerable Y. Sumana Nayaka Thera, and several other honored guests also participated in the ceremony. The following is the inscription on this special award:
“I would like to humbly share with you this special honor presented to me by the Supreme Monks Council of Sri Lanka. This award represents recognition of the work that I do around the world which is supported by hundreds of people across many countries. Such recognition of what I do with great love truly humbles me and encourages me to continue to bring the message of peace and healing to the world. This also serves as a reminder to work harder to alleviate suffering and continue to make a difference in this world” – Bhante Y. Wimala
