Global Peace Award for Bhante Wimala

On Sat. Sept 8, 2007 I attended the 4th annual Stand for Peace event in Philadelphia, PA. to accept the Global Peace Award on behalf of Venerable Bhante Wimala. Started after 9/11 to focus attention on peace, this event is sponsored by the Center for Peace in partnership with the Metropolitan Christian Council of Philadelphia to honor those within the city and within the world who most exemplify peace.   full story...

Meeting the Vice President of Kenya

The Vice President of Kenya is the second highest executive official in the Kenyan government. Bhante Wimala met with the Vice-President of Kenya, Hon. Moody Awori, in his office of Vice President and The Ministry of Home Affairs in Nairobi in May 2007. Since the Vice President is the patron of the Disabled Association of Kenya and is involved with projects to improve the lives of disabled people, the meeting was mutually beneficial.   full story...

Update from Africa

Dear friends and students,

I send you greetings and blessings from Nairobi, Kenya. I have been in Nairobi for the last five days and have been very busy with our humanitarian projects here. I am constantly reminded that I have not only come to a different country, I have come to a different word. What I hear, see and feel is often overwhelming. To be honest, I am happier here than many other places I visit because I see the results of our efforts and how people's lives are changed everyday with so little effort.   full story...

Death of a Minister

The Death of Hon. Mirugi Kiriuki

On April 10th, 2006 at around 3:00 pm, I made a call to Kenya with the expectation of speaking with the Assistant Minister for Internal Security there, the Hon. Mirugi Kiriuki. I wanted to confirm with the Hon. Kiriuki the appointment we had scheduled to further discuss the construction of a maternity center at the Nakuru hospital in Kenya. He did not answer his phone though. Since I had already arranged to be in Kenya so as to meet with him the following week, it was urgent that I confirm the appointment in order to make my short stay there as productive as possible.   full story...

Members of Parliment Meet Bhante Wimala

On the first of July 2005, Seventeen members of Kenyan parliament met with Bhante. The special reception held at a hotel in Nairobi gave an opportunity for the members of Parliament to thank Bhante Wimala for his humanitarian projects in Kenya.
