Parliamentary Friendship Association

On the 13th of December, 2010, Bhante participated in the first meeting of the Sri Lanka -Kenya Parliamentary Friendship Association. The event was organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy and was attended by 15 members of the Kenyan Parliament, most of who chair various parliamentary committees.  Also in attendance were the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner who organized the event.   full story...

Bhante Wimala Awarded Peace Ambassador "Samadutha" Award

In recognition of the spiritual teachings and humanitarian projects of Bhante Wimala, the Upcountry Amarapura Supreme Monks Council of Sri Lanka recently awarded him the prestigious “Samadutha” Peace award. At a special monks council meeting, held on the 14th of March in the hill country town of Nuwara Eliya, Bhante received this award in the presence of more than 40 monks.   full story...

The Latest Appointment

We are delighted to announce that once again Bhante Y. Wimala has being appointed as the Chief Sangha Nayaka (Head Monk) to the United States. In addition he was also appointed as the Chief Sangha Nayaka to the Czech Republic and Kenya.   full story...

Health Services Excellence Award

We are delighted to report that Bhante Wimala has recently been awarded the Health Services Excellence Award from the Ministries of Health and Resettlement of the government of Sri Lanka. Bhante was chosen as the recipient of this great honor in gratitude for his extensive humanitarian efforts on behalf of the displaced persons who became refugees as the long war finally ended in Sri Lanka.   full story...

Teaching and Humanitarian Projects in Kenya

From October 26th through November 1st Bhante traveled to Kenya and visited the Nairobi Buddhist Temple. Bhante Wimala has been the spiritual director and head monk of this Buddhist Center for many years, offering teaching and leading spiritual programs several times a year.   full story...
